About the Speaker:
David J. Mangelsdorf, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at UT Southwestern and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Mangelsdorf is interested in understanding the molecular basis of transcriptional signaling by nuclear hormone receptors and exploiting their ligand dependency to discover novel therapeutic options for fighting diseases such as atherosclerosis, gallstone disease, cholestasis, metabolic syndrome, cancer, and infectious parasitic diseases.
UCSD Superfund Distiguished Seminar Series
The UCSD SUperfund Research Center sponsors a Distinguished Seminar Series, which invites internationally renowned investigators in diverse areas of environmental sciences or current topics related to interests of our Center, to speak at UCSD. We feature individuals who have distinguished careers in environmental sciences whose research is aligned with the interests of our Center's faculty and as it relates to the national NIH/NIEHS Superfund Research Program. Such occasions have provided excellent opportunities for program investigators, postdoctoral researchers and students to interact with “outsiders” for further cross-fertilization of research ideas, which, in turn, will guide planning for the future. These seminars not only help to bring new ideas to the Center's Project and Core Leaders, but they also increase the awareness of our student body regarding environmental health sciences and its importance.
