Dr. Mark Ellisman, Director of the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research, will provide tissue imaging capabilities for cellular structure and protein expression studies. Central to the objectives of our program are the continuing development of tools to facilitate mechanism based research in examining intra-cellular interactions and communications resulting from toxicant exposure. In addition, most of the research programs are developing sensitive, rapid and high through-put screens to detect specific classes of environmental toxicants that will impact on oxidative stress and xenobiotic receptors. This Core is facilitating the development of novel expression and detection systems to aid in defining unique biological mechanisms associated with exposure as well as feasible biomarker or detection systems.
